A Challenging Journey and the Power of Compassionate Care
Prem Kumari Pradhan, a resident of Ward No. 2 in Chaurideurali Rural Municipality, had been using family planning methods for a long time. However, after a missed dose, she visited DCWC Community Hospital for a checkup. An ultrasound revealed that she was four months pregnant. Surprised by the news, Prem Kumari decided to return home to discuss her options with her husband.
On 2081-07-04 (2024-October-20) at 2:00 AM, Prem Kumari returned to the hospital with symptoms of abdominal pain and per vaginal discharge. Our skilled healthcare team quickly diagnosed that she was in labor. At 4:44 AM, she delivered a baby girl through normal vaginal delivery. However, the newborn weighed only 1200 grams, indicating a very low birth weight.
Doctors recommended transferring the baby to a better-equipped hospital for intensive care. However, Prem Kumari’s husband, Gopal Pradhan, initially expressed a preference to prioritize his wife’s health, even if it meant the newborn might not survive. This created a difficult and emotional situation for everyone involved. Our healthcare team provided counseling and support to help the family navigate these challenging emotions, emphasizing the importance of both mother and baby’s health.
In their time of need, DCWC Community Hospital stood by the family with unwavering compassion. At this point, the hospital manager, Mr. Tul Bahadur Lama, personally stepped in, raised funds, and facilitated the transfer to a specialized hospital, ensuring the newborn received the critical care she needed.
We are pleased to share that the newborn is currently receiving treatment and showing gradual progress. Moments like these remind us of our mission to not only provide medical care but also to offer comfort, support, and hope to every family we serve.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated health workers and team for their compassion and commitment in this challenging journey.
