On March 13, 2026, a meaningful school health camp was conducted at Shree Seti Devi Basic School, located in Ward 7 of Doramba Shailung Rural Municipality, Dolakha. The program was organized under the guidance and direction of Hospital Manager Mr. Tul Bahadur Lama, DCWC Community Hospital, with the aim of bringing basic healthcare services closer to students and teachers.
With the support of Dr. Rajesh Kumar Thakur and his dedicated team, the camp successfully carried out health checkups for 66 individuals, including both students and teachers. Among them, 43 were female and 23 were male. The participation and cooperation from the school community made the program truly impactful.
During the camp, one particular case reminded everyone why such initiatives are so important. A 15-year-old Class 8 student, Pramila Shrestha, had not been suffering from ear pus, itching, difficulty in hearing, and fever. Upon careful examination using an otoscope, the medical team discovered a dead insect inside her ear, which was successfully removed.
If this issue had gone unnoticed, it could have led to serious complications such as hearing loss and infection. This incident clearly reflected the core purpose of organizing school health camps to detect problems early and prevent bigger health risks in the future.
Apart from this case, several common health issues were identified among students, including cough, cold, and skin-related problems. Free medicines were distributed to those in need. It was also observed that nearly half of the students required dental care, including cleaning and fillings.
Dr. Thakur shared important guidance on maintaining proper oral hygiene. Following this, Hospital Manager Mr. Lama requested the school teachers to actively coordinate with parents, raise awareness about dental care, and help ensure that students in need are taken to the hospital for further treatment.
We are hopeful that this request will be taken positively. Encouragingly, under the leadership of school in-charge Ms. Saradha Karki, efforts have already begun to coordinate with parents and support students in addressing their dental issues. Additional support was also provided by hospital pharmacy assistant Ms. Rabina Rai, whose contribution played an important role in the success of the program.
Lastly, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the entire school family for their warm welcome, hospitality, and cooperation. The kindness and support shown by the teachers and staff made this program even more special. We also extend our sincere thanks to the school for providing the opportunity to serve and connect with the community.
